Course Overview

The CITS HAZWOPER course builds a broad foundation in hazard recognition, safe work practices, and emergency response for industrial and field environments common to Cook Inlet and other Alaska industrial operations.

Training covers OSHA-aligned requirements, control measures, and industrial hygiene, with a strong focus on personal protective equipment (PPE), site safety, fall protection, and equipment use. Participants learn how to recognize and control chemical, biological, and physical hazards; work safely around machinery, vehicles, and helicopters; and respond appropriately to spills and other emergencies.

This course is one of the three required courses in the AIA – CITS Course program. Workers must complete CITS HAZWOPER, H2S Unaccompanied, and Confined Space Entry to be eligible for a CITS card issued by Alaska Industrial Academy. Successful completion of this course qualifies participants for an AIA completion certificate.
