The Confined Space Entry course provides focused training for workers who enter, monitor, or support permit-required confined space work. Using OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 as a framework, the course explains how confined spaces are identified, classified, and controlled to prevent serious injuries and fatalities.
Participants review general requirements for permit-required confined spaces, the use of atmospheric testing and monitoring equipment, and how to apply a written permit system. The course clarifies the duties of authorized entrants, attendants, and entry supervisors, and outlines how to coordinate with rescue and emergency services before work begins.
This course is one of the three required courses in the AIA – CITS Course program. Workers must complete CITS HAZWOPER, H2S Unaccompanied, and Confined Space Entry to be eligible for a CITS card issued by Alaska Industrial Academy.
By the end of the course, workers understand the hazards associated with confined spaces, know their roles and responsibilities during entry, and can follow site procedures for safe entry, monitoring, and rescue coordination.

Prerequisites
Basic safety awareness recommended. Must be physically capable of wearing respiratory protection if required.
